Donny is an 11 year old, 15.3 hh Draft cross who joins our program from Gerda’s Equine Rescue in Vermont. This handsome boy was purportedly green broke to ride in the past, but has most recently been turned out alone for the past several years. He is very excited to be around other horses again, and initial evaluation has shown that he certainly has some knowledge of the basics. Donny stands well for grooming and the vet, and showed a nice ability to connect with his handler during work in the roundpen. He took all of our obstacles right in stride, and demonstrated a nice steady trot and canter on the lunge line.
After a couple months of reconditioning work, Donny is feeling better than ever! Donny has proven to be very sensible under saddle, and not spooky. He is currently being ridden at the walk and trot in the arenas, working on balance, and steering, and also starting to gain miles and confidence on the trail as well. With some more time we could see the potential for Donny to be a low level lesson horse, therapy horse, or steady trail mount. We are enjoying getting to work with this versatile gelding, and can’t wait to see him find his forever home soon.
*Update: We are pleased to announce that Donny has found his forever home with new mom Cynthia. Cynthia will be continuing Donny’s conditioning program and using him for a pleasure and trail horse. We are very happy for Donny and Cynthia and wish them many happy years together!
