1999 Welsh/Morgan pony gelding
Oakley is a grade gelding in his early twenties who is with us for continued training from the MSSPA. He has a big in-your-pocket personality and has quickly become a favorite around the farm. Oakley is a very quick learner with a good attitude. It was believed that he had been under saddle in the past, although he had not been ridden during his time at the MSSPA.
After lots of focus on groundwork, lunging, ground driving, obstacles and ponying, we were able to sit on Oakley, and he has been great so far! He has more ‘whoa’ than go, but seems to absolutely love the trails and is much happier to hack out than do circles in the ring. Oakley has only been under saddle for a few weeks thus far, but he is proving to be a very steady and solid citizen. With more schooling, we believe he could make a great kids pony, trail pony or companion.
UPDATE: After an initial adoption fell through, it became clear that Oakley was ready to retire from the riding scene. Due to his age and physical limitations, he is now looking for a home as a companion pony. Oakley is currently back in residence at the MSSPA in Windham, awaiting his forever home.
