Sampson came to us in the fall of 2012 as a stallion, with a goat named Tabby, when his owner was no longer able to care for them. Many people believe that a ten-year-old stallion, even after gelding, will never be a gentle horse. Sampson truly has proved that inaccurate. We weaned him away from his goat friend, castrated him, and began helping him find his place in the world. What he lacked in size, he made up for with his heart. He is the most loveable, curious horse who has a true affinity for helping people. Sampson was adopted by a wonderful organization in Maine called At A Bend in the Road ( www.atabendintheroad.com) which provides therapeutic help to families with adopted children. Sampson’s job is to help adoptive/foster families connect, and perhaps help them to overcome negative experiences from their past. His new owners have shared that Sampson is a truly astute therapist: the children that other horses run from, Sampson runs to, they have said! Sampson is their “go to guy” and is unflappable with all the children. He inspires so many daily, participating in changing family’s lives for the better by merely being himself with his positive and kind energy. We miss him here, but are so proud of what he is able to give to those that need it the most.
