Horse Rescue, Horses with Hope

Giving Horses Hope in Maine

Lena- Quarter horse cross mare

Lena is a  17 year old, 14.2 hh solidly built Quarter horse cross mare who comes to us from NEER North. She was surrendered to the rescue in the fall of 2020 along with her mother and brother. Initially, Lena was quite defensive and uninterested in people, but after several months at NEER she began to come out of her shell. She was briefly evaluated with a rider aboard bareback, and displayed a nice walk and jog.

While it is possible that Lena had extensive riding training in her past, we will begin with groundwork and take it one step at a time. We can report that Lena stands quietly for grooming, and does appear to have some groundwork education. We look forward to getting to know this gorgeous mare, and will be sure to provide updates as we progress in her training.
