Aspen

Aspen is a 9 year old miniature mare, joining us for training from Home at Last Farm in New Hampshire in July 2025. Aspen arrived here with Charlie (presumed son) and Millie (her daughter, who was just 6 months old at the time). The three of them were taken out of the auction pipeline in 2020 and have been in foster care in the meantime, and are now going to start their journeys to finding their forever homes! We are only just getting to know Aspen, and will share more updates here as we get to know her! She is very sweet, and appears to be slightly on the timid side. 

October 2025 update: Aspen is coming out of her shell and is making a lot of progress on her basic groundwork and handling skills! She is great for the farrier and enjoys being groomed. She seems like the type who would thrive in a quiet environment where she is consistently handled by someone who understands that she still gets nervous sometimes. 

Aspen will settle into a new herd best if she is allowed to meet her new friends through the fence for a week or two first— she likes to establish herself as the boss to start and can come on a little strong. We have found that giving her some time to sniff noses without having to share her space helps her skip over any unnecessary disagreements about who is in charge. After the initial meeting process through the fence, we have found that she settles right in with her turnout buddies!
