Community Spotlight: Sue

Welcome to our new ‘Community Spotlight’ interview series! Throughout our years in operation as a foster training organization, we’ve been lucky enough to meet horse lovers from all over New England and beyond. From our incredible adopters, to our team of horse care and health professionals, to the amazing instructors we turn to for guidance, this community has grown into a supportive network that truly cares about helping horses. We may come from different backgrounds or practice different disciplines, but when we come together to offer adoptive homes and to share our knowledge and our passion, we can change lives. In this new series, we look forward to learning more about this extraordinary community through their answers to a list of questions.

Sue adopted Forrest in 2020. They live in Vermont.

What is one of your earliest memories with horses?
“My earliest memory is when I was 4 years old, and my uncle brought two Shetland ponies over to my camp to stay with us for the summer.  I remember burying my nose in their manes, breathing deep and falling in love with that smell.  I still do that today.”
 
What do you do when you are seeking inspiration?
“I often head out to the barn, clean stalls and putter around. My thoughts and ideas are best developed there.  I also get inspiration from many educational experiences whether it be lessons, a webinar or meeting up with horse friends.” 
 
What is one of the lessons that horses have taught you about yourself?
“Horses have taught me to advocate for myself and what I believe in and in the process, they have taught me to slow down, to have a plan that is flexible, and to notice what is behind that which is being said.”
 
What is one of the things you love about horses?
“There is more than a lifetime of what can be learned from horses.  My learning will never end.”
