1999 Pinto pony gelding
Baxter arrived at the farm with Acadia and Snickers in October 2014 from the New Holland auction. He is about 14 hh and the only information we received about his past was that he had been a camp horse. Because of his shaggy, neglected appearance and severely overgrown feet, we felt certain that no one else would be interested in Baxter and in fact we were the only bidders. From the moment we went up to examine him at the aucti0n, Baxter displayed a curious and kind demeanor. We watched as he remained calm throughout the chaos of the auction ring, and it didn’t take us long to decide that this cutie would be an amazing addition to our program.
Since arriving at Horses With Hope, Baxter has displayed perfect manners and a calm, quiet attitude. He was well-behaved for the farrier, vet, and dentist, and truly takes everything in stride. Baxter lunges well and was unfazed by our variety of obstacles. We suspect that he never had much (if any) formal training, and we had to begin at the beginning with steering. Baxter is a quick learner however, and we are confident that with a bit more time and training, he will be a real pleasure to ride. He has three steady gaits and quietly pops over small jumps, but what he really seems to enjoy is trailriding. This sweet little guy is a pleasure to work with, and we are confident that he will make someone a wonderful and versatile partner.
UPDATE: In March of 2015 Baxter was placed in the most wonderful home we could ever imagine for him. When he isn’t roaming around sloping fields with a lakeside view he will be blazing new trails with new forever friends. Baxter had stolen the heart of his human soul mate upon first glance and we are so happy that they found each other.
