Blue is a 13 yo, 16.1 hh Standardbred gelding who comes to us through the Santana Center. Originally a trotter in California, Blue ended up in a neglected condition and in need of some serious TLC. The assistant director of Santana Center was living in California at the time, and her chance meeting of this handsome gelding led to him being purchased by a farm in Maine. Unfortunately, Blue’s new owners were looking for a steady driving horse, and Blue seems better suited to riding and ringwork. Happily, his contacts at the Santana Center immediately agreed to accept him into their program, and so he has come to us for further training and evaluation.
Blue is a lovely, and sensitive gelding. He is very handsome and has great manners on the ground. Blue came to us with some discomfort and was under muscled, but after a couple months of conditioning, body work, and the addition of shoes he has become much more comfortable. Before climbing aboard we did a lot of work in-hand and on-line to help Blue relax and soften throughout his whole body. Blue is currently being ridden about 3 times a week at the walk and trot in the arenas. Blue is working on gaining confidence with a rider, relaxing under saddle, and lateral work. Blue has also ventured out of the arenas, and showed great potential on the trails with a steady friend for company.
UPDATE: In June of 2022, Blue was lucky enough to be adopted by a wonderful family in New Hampshire. In company with another gelding, Blue will be hitting the trails with his new mom while continuing to build up his conditioning and knowledge as a riding horse. We are thrilled for Blue and Dawn, and wish them many happy years together. Congratulations!
