Grace joins us for training from our friends at NEER North. Grace is a 2 year old Belgian/American Cream draft cross filly. Grace came from a sweet Belgian mare that was rescued and was not known to be pregnant at the time. When Grace was born she was very ill and needed supportive care early on. Since that time she has thrived and is now a healthy and energetic 2 year old. Due to her age and her ever increasing size Grace will need consistent handling and training in order to become a solid and polite equine citizen. Grace is very friendly and outgoing and already knows some groundwork basics. She is good for the vet, and learning to stand quietly for the farrier.
August 2024 Update: Grace has been progressing very well in her training! She is continuing to learn how to respectfully share space with humans, as she is innately an extrovert and certainly isn’t afraid to ask for a good scratch on her withers. We have found that she does best with guidance on what the expectations are, as any young horse does. Grace will be looking for a home that appreciates the extroverted horse and doesn’t mind asking for personal space (as long as wither scratches are not forgotten). We have recently started incorporating ground driving into training, after introducing her to the surcingle. Grace is very, very smart and likes her work to be kept interesting. Bonus points if there is an inflatable ball for her to play with! Grace’s curiosity and boldness are huge assets that will serve her well in life and make her a great partner, but she isn’t ready to head down the trail just yet. She is too young to be started under saddle or in a driving career, so we are laying the foundation while she is here. Grace’s ideal home will be eager to play to her strengths while giving her time to develop mentally and physically with consistent handling.
