2006 Paint gelding
Koda arrived from the New Holland auction in June of 2015. This handsome paint stands about 15.2 hh and has been friendly and easy to work around since his arrival at the farm. Koda is unique among auction horses in that he came with papers, which allowed us to contact his former owner. In this way, we learned that Koda had a loving home until this past spring, when personal circumstances forced the owner to sell him. This horse is a perfect example of how even the best of horses can simply fall through the cracks, as Koda’s old owner was shocked to learn that he had ended up at the New Holland sale.
Happily, Koda will now be assured of a forever home in the future, and we have far more information then we could ever expect to receive with most of our horses. We learned that Koda was foaled in South Dakota, then purchased as a yearling and shipped to Pennsylvania. He was used for breeding until being gelded in 2011, and was purchased by his longtime owner in 2012 as a green-broke 6 year old. Koda then was trained and ridden Western, and became a sweet, willing, and valued partner to his former owner.
We have begun work with Koda and can certainly see that he was well-loved and cared for in the past. He is a kind, laid-back type and has great ground manners. We begun work regular work under saddle in August, and anticipate that it won’t take much time to get this sweet boy going well both in the ring and out on the trails.
Update: In October 2015, Koda was placed in a wonderful forever home in Southern Maine, where he will have opportunities to learn, grow, and reach his full potential. Koda and his new owner just seem to be made for each other. We know Koda will be given the life that he deserves, and will love unconditionally in return. Congratulations to Koda and his new family. May you have many rides in good health!
