August 2024 Update: KT is proving himself to be such a friendly, people-oriented guy! He is excellent in his groundwork and excels at liberty work. We are working to help him with his posture, as he experiences some tension that sometimes results in reactivity. His future career as a riding horse is to be determined, though he absolutely has the personality for it. We have been on him at a walk and he was perfectly behaved. We are looking forward to continuing to work with KT and his innate strengths while helping him use his body effectively.
September 2024 Update: After continued signs of discomfort associated with wearing tack and carrying a rider, veterinary evaluation and x-rays determined that KT has kissing spines. While he is sound and comfortable in his everyday life, the added weight and restriction of a saddle and rider causes discomfort and subsequent anxiety. Because of this, KT is seeking a non-riding home only. He is very sweet with other horses in turn out, loves grooming and attention from people, and has excellent manners on the ground. He is super fun to play with on line, connects easily to his handler and already has a foundation of liberty work. He would make a great companion for another horse, or partner for someone who wishes to develop their relationship and connection on the ground! KT will remain in Maine until November, at which time he would return to Dorset Equine Rescue in Vermont. For more info, please contact us.
UPDATE: KT has found the perfect home! He will be joining a wonderful family in southern Maine, where he will be keeping two mares company and continuing his groundwork and liberty playtime with new mom, Maria. KT really hit the jackpot and we are so thrilled for him! Wishing everyone many happy years together, and congratulations!
