Mary is a 5 year old, 14.1 hh Morgan mare who joins us for training through a new partnership with Dorset Equine Rescue in Vermont. She is a lovely solid girl and an easy keeper with great feet. Mary was unhandled upon arrival at Dorset last year, and with their training has come a long way: learning the basics and beginning work under saddle. We will be taking it from the beginning with Mary, as she can be anxious about being handled in certain situations but she has already won us over with her sweet, friendly demeanor.
Update June 2023: Mary is now being ridden at the walk, trot, and canter in the arenas, and has begun hacking out with a steady friend. She can still get worried or tight at times, but is improving each week and can now offer lovely relaxation during work in hand. This is beginning to carry over into under saddle work as well, with Mary showing more consistency and softness every week. This sweet and sensitive mare will be looking for an experienced rider to continue her education.
UPDATE: In August of 2023, Mary was adopted! She joins HWH alumni Amir and Tripp at Reigning Hope Ranch in Maine. Mary’s under saddle education will continue with her new mom, Jenna, and she will also be participating in non-mounted Equine Assisted Psychotherapy programs. We know that Mary will love getting lots of attention and participating in the different activities at the ranch, and we wish everyone many happy years together. Congratulations!
