World joins our program in December 2023 from Futures for Standardbreds. At just three years old, World is still a baby in many ways and will be looking for more exposure and experience as we continue his education. While he trained on the harness racing track, World never raced and as such is a pretty clean slate who could go in any direction in future.
As he settles into life at a new farm, World has shown himself to have a very sweet and friendly demeanor. He can be a bit spooky and fearful of various sounds, sights, and objects, but is getting better at staying with his handler and working through these moments rather than leaving the scene. World gets along well with other horses and is currently out in a herd with four other geldings. He is well behaved for the farrier, and is quiet to handle when he is relaxed with his environment. World has excelled with groundwork lessons and is just beginning to carry a rider at the walk. Stay tuned for updates as World learns how to be a riding horse!
August 2024 Update: Our handsome standardbred is looking for his person! He has matured a lot mentally and physically since arriving in December 2023. His personality has really started to blossom, and he now seeks connection with his handler and enjoys liberty work. He has been ridden at the walk and trot in the arena and out in the field, and has made huge improvements in his coordination and balance–– two areas that he (very understandably) struggled with when he arrived here as a 16.2hh 4-year-old. World is a pro at groundwork and loves to show off his skills. He is happiest wearing front shoes and has been treated for Lyme, low Vitamin E, and ulcers— all of which have resolved, though we have him on a maintenance dose of Nano-E to make sure his Vitamin E levels stay where they need to be.
