This handsome 5-year old, 14.2 hh Arabian gelding joins us for training from Gerda’s Equine Rescue (GER) in Vermont. Rescued from a killpen last winter, Rafiq was initially skittish but has since become friendly and curious about people. This leggy boy has some filling out to do, but is believed to be a clean slate ready to begin his training.
After several months getting to know Raf, we can report that he is as sweet and smart as they come. He has been ponied out on the trails, connects beautifully during roundpen or liberty work, lunges and long lines well. Most recently Raf was introduced to tack and a rider, and is currently working at the walk and trot in an arena. He stands for bathing, vet, and the farrier, and is an easy keeper who gets along wonderfully with everyone. We are thrilled to help this special boy further his education, and have no doubt that he will make someone a very happy horse owner in future! If you are interested in learning more about Rafiq, please submit an application.
UPDATE: Raf has found a fantastic home! In June 2023, Raf left for New Hampshire with his new mom, Jen. He joins Eva, a sweet Arabian mare who was adopted out through the MSSPA, and Jen reports that they are already best buds and that she looks forward to taking them both out on the trails. We are beyond thrilled for Raf and his forever family, and wish everyone many happy trails together. Congratulations!!
