Romeo is a 33”, 17-year-old gelding joining us for training from Gerda’s Equine Rescue in May 2025. Romeo was a cryptorchid until very recently, and was said to be owned by the Amish before being sent to auction. Romeo appears to have a long history of hoof neglect, and has a significant deformity in his right front hoof that may be congenital or the result of an old injury. We are also awaiting the results of a PPID (Cushings) test. Our focus with Romeo at the moment is to address his physical and emotional needs— he is very scared and would prefer to not be caught, though he is “compliant” once he is on a line. Welcome to Hope, Romeo— we look forward to helping you.
August 2025 Update: Romeo has been adopted by our very own farrier! As a horse that will require specialized farrier care for the rest of his life, we could not have imagined a more perfect home for him. He will be joined in his new home by Charlie, a mini gelding who was with us for training from Home At Last Farm. The two of them have become fast friends and are rarely seen eating from separate hay piles. We are so happy for both of them and for their new family!
