Shadow is a 16+ year old, 15.2 hh Quarter horse type gelding who comes to us from NEER North. He was rescued from a Texas killpen several years ago, but little else is known of his history, and is riding experience is unknown.
Shadow was a bit shy and nervous upon arrival with us. He was carrying a lot of tension throughout his whole body, and was quite uncomfortable. However, he responded very well to some much needed body work and now seems much happier. Shadow leads well, is good with other horses, stands to be groomed, and does well with obstacles. Though he has great ground manners, Shadow came to us carrying a lot of worry about his feet. When he first arrived we were not able to pick up any of his four hooves. Now after some time and patience, he is much more accepting of having all of his feet picked out, and stands well for the farrier.
After a couple months of evaluation we have determined that due to physical limitations and arthritis, Shadow is best suited as a companion only. We know this kind hearted gelding would make a great addition to anyone’s family. If you are interesting in adopting Shadow please fill out an application on our website.
UPDATE: Shadow has found his forever home! In early March of 2021, Shadow joined one of our alumni Spartan (now known as Captain Sparkle) and the crew at Apifera Farm just down the road in Bremen, Maine. His new mom hopes that he will enjoy participating in the therapy programs she operates, and we’re sure he will adore all of the love and attention that comes his way. Congratulations to all!
