2001 Paint Horse gelding
Tommy, a 2001 Paint gelding, was saved in November 2014, from a PA kill pen. After his quarantine, he arrived at Whispering Woods Farm in Maryland. While at Whispering Woods they noticed that he was afraid of being separated and would become very attached to other horses. They worked a lot with Tommy and thought he had worked through his stress, and eventually adopted him out. Unfortunately, the new home did not have another horse, and Tommy was unable to handle being alone. In a cooperative effort, we adopted Tommy from Whispering Woods in order to provide him with more intensive training.
Tommy came to Horses with Hope in late October 2015, along with Roman. It is apparent that Tommy suffers from Separation Anxiety, likely due to traumatic situations that he must have experienced. The beginning of his training and rehabilitation has focused in on these issues.
Tommy is a handsome and bright horse that will need a companion once he is adopted. Horses are herd animals and many are not happy unless they have another horse or equine friend with them. If you are considering adopting Tommy, please take this into consideration. Tommy is currently available and we are accepting applications for his adoption.
Update: It is with great pleasure that we announce another adoption. Tommy was officially adopted a short time ago. Most of you are aware that Tommy suffers from separation anxiety. Although he has made great strides, we knew this would continue to be a lingering concern, especially after Tommy was placed into a loving home. We had to find someone special that would take the time to understand and continue to support Tommy during his transition from Horses with Hope to his new home. We kept thinking that the only thing, which could have made this transition easier, would be if Tommy were able to leave with a friend. Tommy must have friends in high places, as that is where The Vincent’s came in. The Vincent family actually came to the farm to look at Charlie…and fell in love with both of them. That’s right…a dream come true for Charlie and Tommy.
We are able to report that the boys are doing very well. The family is getting to know them and enjoying the bonds that they are already forming together. They are discovering patterns that work for Tommy in reducing his stressors. It is great to see how people continue to listen to the horse’s cues in an effort to understand their behavior. Charlie is easy going and helpful in his “big brother” role. He will be the steady equine component that Tommy needs to continue his progress.
