Wonder is a 12-year old, 14 hh Paint gelding from NEER North in Massachusetts. He was rescued from a Missouri killpen several years ago and was surrendered to NEER North this past summer.
Wonder came to us fairly nervous at times, but clearly he had some good work in his past as he cross ties, stands quietly for grooming and the farrier, and connects nicely with a handler in the round pen and on a lead line. His riding history was unknown, and so we started Wonder back as if he had never been saddled. We began by working on lungeing, ropework, ponying on the trails, and long lining. Once he had taken all of that in stride, we began work under saddle.
Though still green, Wonder will now walk, trot, and canter in the arena. We have been working a lot on getting Wonder forward moving off the leg and straight throughout the body. He has also been hitting the trails with a friend for company, and thus far has been very steady and relaxed. This adorable pony has lovely gaits and a sweet, sensible temperament. We believe he will make a nice pleasure and trail horse in future, and we look forward to continuing with his training. If you are interested in learning more about Wonder, please contact us.
*Update: We are pleased to say that Wonder has found his forever home! He will be staying in Maine and will be an excellent trail companion for his new mom, Lisa. We wish these two many happy years and adventures together!
